Philosophy on Education:

I will begin this paper by stating my name; my name is Jared Drake Hayes Lomax.  Not many people can say they have four names but I can. I was given the first name Jared because my dad’s name is Jonathan and my mom wanted the kid’s names to start with the letter J as well. I received the name Drake because my Mom liked it and she didn’t know anybody else named Drake. My other middle name, Hayes, also came from my Dad because his middle name is also Hayes which is sort of a family tradition. And of course we have the last name Lomax.

Before I can discuss my philosophy toward education I must first tell you that I believe education is the most important asset in our lives. We live in a time where really true genuine assets are hard to find, but I truly believe that an education is one of those things. The further and further things go to the left and the lesser and lesser our rights really mean there is one thing that no governing official or dictator can take away from an individual and that thing is an education. What goes into our minds is humanly impossible for anyone other human to take from us and I believe that is the most important thing in the life we live. The most downgrading thing to me is to simply not know something. Many times when you don’t know it shuts down an entire area of life that you could be living in and to me that is the worse illness an individual can have. I know numerous people with Alzheimer's disease and to me that is the worse disease known to man is to just not know anything anymore.

I believe that the purpose if education is to give people equal and ample opportunities to be successful in life. Success is measured in many different ways to many different people. Some people’s idea of success is to become millionaires and many of these people spend their entire life trying to accomplish this and wind up in a state to where they can’t enjoy what they’ve done through the years. Others, however, view success as the simple things in life. Simple things like have a family, having a home to call their own. These people, in my opinion, get a lot more out of life then people who spend their entire life chasing a dollar and trying to get another one. Either way though no matter how you view success, I believe that education is the ground work that prepared an individual to become successful.

I believe that the student and the teacher both have very significant roles in education. I, however, don’t believe that the student and teacher will always maintain the exact same role in the educational sphere. Many times in education the teacher is teaching and student is doing the learning, but vice versa I also believe that there are time when the students does the teaching and the teacher actually does the learning. I’ve heard older people make this statement, “Never become too old to learn.” I believe this is a very evident truth in our lives, we must never forget to learn.

I believe that teachers play a very significant role in the community. I also believe that teachers should be held to a higher standard. My teaching right now is just on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights at church, but there are numerous kids around town that I see and they immediately recognize me and say hello or speak. Many of these kids tell me that they look up to me and I’ve even had some parents come to me and tell me how much they appreciate me being a positive role model for their children. I believe a teacher is a superhero to most children and I believe that teacher should maintain a professional character at and away from school.
